Microscopes have enlarged understandings Eyepiece Lens Coarse Focus
about cells and organisms for over 200 years. But a
compound light microscope (an optical microscope) is
limited in a capability, which is the ability to magnify
objects that are not smaller than 0.2 micrometres. Arm
If an object is smaller than 0.2 micrometres, it will Objective Lenses
not be visible. Therefore, we are still not able to see
components of cells that are smaller than 0.2 Fine Focus
micrometres, even with a light microscope.

How to Use a Light Microscope
1. Lift the microscope using one hand at
the arm and the other supporting the base in a
vertical manner in order to prevent components of the
microscope, such as the mirror and the eyepiece lens,
from misplacing.
