9. Identify the size of the observing object, which can be found by multiplying the magnifying powers
of the objective lens and the eyepiece lens.
10. Use the following formula to calculate the Image Size
magnifying powers: Magnifying Power = Object Size
11. After using the microscope, check conditions of the following components: use a soft cloth to wipe
the lenses, especially the metal parts, use lens cleaning wipes to clean the lenses after every use, align the
stage clips perpendicularly with the stage plate, adjust the mirror to vertically and perpendicularly align with
the microscope body, align the lowest magnifying-powered objective lens with the microscope body, and then
lower it down to the lowest point.

Microscopes used in schools have different numbers of objective lenses, e.g. 1, 2 or 3 lenses, which
also have different magnifying powers: x4 as the lowest, x10 as medium, x40 or x80 as the highest, or even
up to x100. The magnifying powers of eyepiece lenses are usually at x10 or x15.
Magnifying powers of microscopes can be calculated by multiplying the magnifying powers of the
objective lens and the eyepiece lens (which numbers are written on the lenses) in the following formula:
Microscope Magnifying Power = Eyepiece Lens Magnifying Power x Objective Lens Magnifying Power
