From the number line, you can see the difference between two numbers.
5 - 1 = 4 5 - 5 = 0
5 - 2 = 3 5 - 6 = -1
5 - 3 = 2 5 - 7 = -2
5 - 4 = 1 5 - 8 = -3
The numbers -1, -2 and -3 are called negative integers.
The number -1 is read as “negative one”.
The number -2 is read as “negative two”.
The number -3 is read as “negative three”.
You can see whenever the first number, the number which is before the minus sign, is less
than the second number, the number which is after the minus sign, the result is always negative.
If the second number increases, the result will decrease. Mathematicians call these numbers
negative numbers.
